About the Speaker
Associate Professor Marilyn Bromberg is a dual Canadian-Australian citizen, born and raised in Toronto before relocating to Perth, Australia in 2006. She is Deputy Head of School (Community and Engagement) at the University of Western Australia and a practising lawyer at Janssen + Maluga Legal. In 2014, she completed one of the world's first PhDs in Social Media Law and has since built an international reputation in that field and in Body Image Law — the subject of her book Body Image Law: Revolutionising Images of Thin-Ideal Women, ranked among Amazon's top 25 Health Law titles. In 2025, she was a visiting scholar at STRIPED, a research program based at Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Bromberg has presented her research on cyberbullying of politicians and political deepfakes directly to legislators across Canada and Australia, including the Nova Scotia Legislature, the New South Wales Parliament, the Parliament of Victoria, and the Queensland Parliament — briefings that have been well received by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
Panel Discussion
Following Dr. Bromberg's presentation, she'll be joined by a panel of New Brunswick voices for a moderated discussion on what these findings mean locally — from the realities of running for office to the tools available for recognizing and responding to online harassment and disinformation.
